Devanagari writes a vowel two ways. At the start of a word it is a full letter (अ आ इ ई उ ऊ ए ऐ ओ औ). After a consonant it becomes a sign attached to that consonant (ा ि ी ु ू े ै ो ौ). So किताब is क + ि + त + ा + ब. The sign ि is drawn before the letter but typed after it — your device places it correctly.
Want to type faster? Phonetic typing is usually quicker than clicking: try Hindi Typing and write kitaab to get किताब.
